It had been the morning following after Nathaniel and I returned home from Rio, Izzy had spent the rest of the day with me until Axl decided to show up during the evening. That was when Izzy left after bidding us all a goodnight; leaving alone Axl, Nathaniel and I. That was the time that Axl and I took for some alone time, especially since Nathaniel was already out like a light in his cot. We had began to watch a movie, Die Hard: starring Bruce Willis. And of course after the movie Axl had both made our room into the bedroom and passed out. The exhaustion finally taking over us from the last few days.
Sighing as I got out of bed, luckily both Axl and Nathaniel were still silently sleeping. I took the time to quickly get dressed and head into the kitchen in search of the small bag I had my money stashed away into. I was going to quickly pop out and pay the rent once again. I wanted to do it before either awoke from their slumber, it was easier that way. Exiting the apartment, I headed down the corridor and quickly down the stairs to where the little office was situated. There sat the another lady that I have nevet seen before, she was reading a magazine and having her morning coffee.
"Hi." I give her a small smile, attempting to catch her attention. The woman looked up from her magazine and returned the tired smile. Her curly blonde hair looked very fuzzy and she had dark bags under her eyes, beyond her reading glasses.
"What can I do for you?" She asks politely, the sweet smile peaking at her pale pink lips.
"I've come to pay money towards the rent." I return. She nods her head and opened the drawer beside her, where files seemed to be kept. There had to be at least a hundred or more files in the drawer. Ghee, there must have been a lot more tenants renting in the building then I really took notice of.
"Name please?" She demands, keeping her eyes on the drawer beside her.
"Ethel Saunders." I answered, waiting patiently. The woman nodded her head and pulled out a folder, quickly flicking through to a particular page. Her eyes looked up from the paperwork and her lips continued to smile back at me. She looked exhausted yet she held a smile, regardless.
"Rent isn't due Miss Saunders." The woman states. I furrowed my eyebrows and shook my head in confusion. No, that definitely wasn't correct. It had to of been due, in fact I knew that it was overdue! That's precisely why I had an eviction letter stuck to my door.
"That can't be right, I had an eviction letter just yesterday on the door. Payments are overdue." I stated. The woman returned the same confused expression before going through the paperwork once more, checking it again. I watched as her eyes moved from each individual word as she quietly read, double checking for any possible mistakes.
"I'm sorry Miss Saunders, but it says here that you paid enough rent in advance for at least another two months. You don't owe anything for, let me make sure-" She paused, obviously checking the date written in the notes, her finger pointing directly at where she was previously reading. "For three months exactly. You've paid in advance." She nodded her head, looking more confident. I on the other hand was very confused. Keeping my eyebrows furrowed, I thanked her before heading back up the stairs. Someone had paid my rent, paid my rent that I didn't need to pay for another three months. By ghee that was a lot of money, three months worth of rent was a scary amount of money to pay in one go. I couldn't even imagine me having that amount of money in reality! I've never had that much money, not to my name that's for sure.
Thinking to myself, I wondered who had been so absurd and so generous to pay my overdue rent and the rent for the next three months. Was it Axl? It was a high possibility, I mean he knew I was low on funds. But when? He couldn't have done it last night, nor could he have snuck out this morning and done it for me. I didn't even feel him go. Shaking away my thoughts, I bit my lip as I began to walk pass Izzy's door. Where I could hear the soft sounds of a guitar being strummed and of course his voice singing along to whatever he was playing. Could it have been Izzy? Would he have paid my rent for me? Why would he do such a thing? He had already helped Nathaniel and I out way too much.
