Chapter 5: Competing in Rockford

The time was 8:30 AM and it was saturday, which means that the day was the first competition of the season as Abby, Alex, Gianna, Sophia, the girls and their moms were all gonna head to Rockford and in the parking lot of the studio, a bus that would take them there was sitting in the parking lot as Abby, Alex, Gianna and Sophia were all waiting for the moms and girls.

"Mom, Gia, Soph, i have a great feeling that with Ally and Asia on the team, we'll blow those other studios out of the water." Alex predicted.

"I have that feeling as well." Abby said to her son.

"Me too." Gianna agreed.

"Honestly, without Kendall on the team, the team might have a whole new dynamic and maybe when they realize that dance is more important, maybe their suspension might be lifted one day." Sophia stated.

"True there." Abby told her daughter.

"Big bro, we know the Los Angeles Kings won the stanley cup back in June, but who do you think will win the stanley cup this year?" Sophia asked her brother.

"Well, i'm hoping that this is the year the Blackhawks win it all." Alex answered.

"I'll go with that prediction as well." Gianna added and minutes later, the girls and moms arrived, Melissa was driving a white range rover and in it with her was Maddie and Mackenzie, Kelly drove a red Chrysler Minivan as Brooke and Paige were riding with her, Holly was driving a blue Chrysler Aspen and Shelly came in driving a silver Dodge Magnum SRT8.

"Ally, are you nervous?" Chloe asked.

"Slightly, i just do not want to let you, Miss Abby and Alex down since this my first competition as a member of Miss Abby's studio." Ally replied.

"You'll do good, Ally." Maddie reassured.

"You think so?"

"We know so." Paige responded.

"Ally, this is also my very first competition as a member of the Abby Lee Dance Company and even though we both don't have any solos, we'll both do our best in the group dance." Asia said to Ally as the bus was continuing to head down the I-90 Expressway on it's way to Rockford.

An hour and eleven minutes later, Coronado Performing Arts Center, where hollywood vibe was being held at, the bus pulled up to the entrance, the driver opened the door and getting off first was Abby, then Alex, Sophia, Gianna, the moms and the girls. The girls got their dancing bags and they walked inside of the building and greeted the fans and Alex signed a few autographs, then he got them checked in for the competition and led them to the dressing room that said "ALDC" and entered.

"Girls, you are the reigning national champs and that means is that you are a target for every other dance studio in this country that want to dethrone you and become national champs and remember this, don't cry like a bunch of babies and make sure to be on your best behavior." Alex informed them. "Christi, Holly, help Chloe and Nia get ready because the solos will be first!"

Christi and Holly both began to get their daughters ready, then a few minutes later, they were given their costumes to change in the changing section.

Chloe was the first to leave the changing section and she was in a spandex leotard with attached, adjustable satin shoulder straps and floral trim that had a metallic knit bodice and matching empire waist skirt.

Nia was wearing a spandex leotard with extended bike shorts leg line and attached adjustable straps that had sequin mesh overlay on upper bodice and also there was attached asymmetrical empire skirt also had layers of chiffon.

"Cool costumes you two." Sophia commented.

Then the door opened and coming in was a stagehand for Hollywood Vibe, who then told them that Nia and Chloe's solos would be coming up, then Chloe and Nia both walked to the wings of the stage as Abby, Sophia, Gianna, Alex, Maddie, Mackenzie, Ally, Brooke, Paige, Asia, Melissa, Christi, Shelly, Holly, Kelly and Kristie took their seats in the crowd.

"Next in our junior soloist division we have Chloe from the Abby Lee Dance Company with Turn to Stone!" Chloe headed out to the stage to applause and stood on the middle of the stage. The music played and Chloe started her routine and from the start, she was dancing like a champion and was nailing every move and at the end, she did a pose and headed off stage.

"Coming up is Nia from the Abby Lee Dance Company with Into Dust!" Nia stepped out and at the start of the music, she began to dance and she was doing all right with her solo, she had a few flaws, but she got through them and she was done with her solo when the music ended, then everyone was backstage again to get the girls ready for the group routine.

Chloe, Maddie, Nia, Brooke, Paige, Asia, Mackenzie and Ally were decked out in a coated spandex leotard with glitter mesh yoke that featured strips of foil spandex on bodice and neckline with an attached asymmetrical skirt, which was a layer of glitter mesh under a layer of tulle, then they were called by the stagehand as Abby, Alex, Sophia, Gianna and the moms retook their seats.

"Up next in our junior small groups division, we have the Abby Lee Dance Company with Unsteady!" Chloe, Maddie, Mackenzie, Nia, Brooke, Paige, Asia and Ally all came out to applause and stood on the stage in their spots and from the start of the music, the girls meshed and were all in sync with their moves and when the music ended, they left the stage to applause.

Competition Solo Results:

2nd - Nia with Into Dust

1st - Chloe with Turn to Stone

Group dance results:

1st - Abby Lee Dance Company with Unsteady

Backstage, Abby, Alex, Sophia and Gianna all walked into the dressing room.

"Awesome job, girls!" Abby commented. "You all were focused and meshed on staged together and we got a clean sweep today! Ally, Asia, we'd like to thank you for being the newest members of the team."

Asia and Ally both nodded to show their appreciation as Kristie and Shelly smiled.

"Girls, it is an absolute breath of fresh air when you have someone on the Abby Lee Dance Company elite junior team that wants to be inspiring, wants to work hard and being a team player like Chloe is and always finds ways to put the team first? I hate to break it to you, but it has to be said, that isn't Kendall because her small brained mother thought that going on vacation was more important than being at the summer classes." Alex said.

"Alex, Abby, i honestly think that you two keep picking on Kendall and Jill." Melissa toldt them.

"Melissa, we could have done many things, but we should have gotten a thank you from Jill because we've been trying to help Kendall trying to be the best and at first it worked, but now, she's not at the level we want her to be at!" Abby replied. "Hate to break it to you, that's the cold, but honest truth and unlike Kendall, Alex kept on going and wanted to get better and Sophia followed in her brother's footsteps by wanting to get better as well."

"I bet he was medicore." Melissa stated.

"Really. Melissa?" Alex retorted, rolling his eyes. "I worked hard every day to be a great dancer for my mom and it paid off. We love you and all, but you need to watch yourself or Maddie and Mackenzie could be replaced next."

"Do you know what you should do, you could talk to Jill and maybe you could figure out." Kelly suggested to them.

"Kelly, you know every dancer in the world has to put forth the effort, but there have been some parents chasing potential new customers and their parents away from a studio because they think that the dancer and parent are threats to them and their child." Abby said, then she, Alex, Gianna and Sophia headed to the bus followed by the girls and their moms.
