Emily

The ride here was nice I liked it a lot. He's funny and his complements made it better. While I put our names in he ordered food and got us drinks. The people next to us keep looking at me. I'm starting to feel bad about myself. "Excuse me?", one of the boys asked walking to me. Fuck.

"Yes?", I asked looking at him.

"I'm Tommy or Tom, what's your name?"

"Emily."

"Emily you're beautiful.", Tom said.

"Thank you.", I said.

"I like your hair.", he said touching my hair.

"Please, don't do that.", I said moving my head.

"Nah, keep it movin' she here with me and keep yo' damn hands to yo' self.", Terrence said mad. He threw his hands up and walked backwards. He actually liked me. What the hell is going on? "You ready to get yo' ass beat?", he asked giving me my drink.

"I was gonna ask you the same thing, thank you.", I said taking the drink.

"I'm a pro ma, you fenna get yo' ass beat.", he said smiling.

"Boy whatever.", I said smiling and grabbing my ball. I rolled it and knocked all of them down. I turned around smiling.

"Baby that's just the first roll.", he said as we walked past each other.

...

He's so funny and he asked about me, I did the same. We didn't ask 'what's your favorite color?' questions but 'what do you aspire to be?' questions. Now we're talking and playing, we started talking while we ate at first. "No when I was like 10, 11 Issac took my fish out of the bowl and it died. He said he wanted to hold the fishy. I swear I cried about that for dang near a month.".

"Are you serious? Over a fish?", he asked before I rolled the ball. "Ha, gutter.". I flicked him off.

"Time and place ma.", he said smiling. I playfully rolled my eyes and got my ball.

"Anyways, yes over a fish. I had him for a year. I was all in my chest.", I said before getting a strike. I started getting hot so I took off my jacket as I walked past him. Once I took it off I got cold, I put it back on and I got hot. I pick cold over hot.

"It's still a fish Mily.", he said knocking most of the pins down. "Here.", he said giving me his Polo jacket. After he gave it to me he got his ball and went back to roll it.

"Thank you, I got attachment issues.", I said zipping it up and crossing my legs.

"Word?", he asked rolling the ball.

"Yup.", I said as the last pins fell.

"Me too. That's why I don't get too close to motha fuckas. The only person I'm close to is my momma.", he said as we walked past each other. "Might have to chill that shit out too.".

"Why?", I asked before rolling the ball.

"I got my reasons.", Terrence said.

"Oh okay.", I said getting my ball.

"What about you? Why you got attachment issues?"., he asked.

"Stuff.", I said rolling for the last time. I started thinking about what happened and zoned everything and everybody out. I grabbed my jacket and purse and went outside. I needed some air. A few minutes later Terrence came out.

"You good?", Terrence asked.

"Can we go?", I asked not looking at him.

"Yeah, yeah. Come on.", he said shaking his head. We walked to his car in silence.

...

"Did I do somethin'?", he asked turning down the music.

"No.", I said lowly.

"Did I say somethin'?", he asked.

"No, I just wanna go home.", I said lowly. He shook his head and turned the music back up.

...

"Text me in the morning.", Terrence said. It's almost 11.

"Okay, thanks.", I said.

"You welcome."

"Oh your jacket.", I said unzipping it and taking it off.

"You could've kept it.", he said as I gave it to him. I snatched it back, grabbed my stuff and got out making him laugh.

"Get home safe.", I said looking at him after I got out

"Damn ma, how you doin'?", a dude asked stopping with his friend. Terrence turned the car off and got out.

"Taken.", Terrence said.

"Let me know when you get tired of yo' nigga ma.", he said before walking away. Terrence laughed and shook his head.

"Nah man, she got a nigga.", he said again. I turned around confused and a dude was about to say something but he walked away. "Imma walk you to the door.", he said walking to me.

"Damn.", dudes in a car said slowing down. Terrence put his hand around my waist and they drove off. When they left he moved it.

"Thanks.", I said.

"No problem.",Terrence said.

"Hold this.", I said giving him our jackets. I started looking for my keys then stopped to see if the door was unlocked and it was. I grabbed the stuff and went in. "I had a good time today. We should do this again.".

"You read my mind. I hope you feel better.", he said before I closed the door. He waited for me to close the door before leaving.

"Momma I need to talk to you.", I yelled through the house.

"I'm in the kitchen.", she yelled back. I walked to the kitchen and put my stuff on the table. "Did you have fun?".

"Why did you leave me?", I asked mad and sad.

"What?", she asked confused.

"When I was younger you left me, why?", I asked.

"I'm not doing this with you.", she said shaking her head and cooking again.

"Why not?", I asked mad.

"Because.", she said not looking at me.

"Because what?", I asked.

"Because I said so.", she said looking at me.

"I'm deserve to know why I was abandoned when I was 2!", I yelled.

"Don't raise your voice at me!", she yelled.

"Why not?", I asked.

"I'm your mother.", she said.

"Not by choice. Remember I'm a it. A mistake.", I said.

"Stop it.", she said looking away.

"How would you feel if granny said those things and felt like that about you?", I asked.

"Stop it.", she said again. She looked at me this time.

"I never knew crack heads could be so stupid and heartless. Sometimes I hate you. G-". She smacked me hard. I put my jacket over his then grabbed my bag and left.

"Emily wait! Emily!", she called. I called Terrence as I walked down the street.

Terrence:Hello?
Me:Are you busy?
Terrence:Yeah, kinda what's up?
Me:Nothing, never mind. I'll text you tomorrow.

I hung up before he could say anything else. What am I gonna do?
