Finals flew past quicker than a blink of an eye for Jess. Struggling with his classes, he was stressed over as to whether he would actually even pass or fail them all. Unlike his girlfriend, he wasn't a genius or anything. He was just in this school for his scholarship. That was it. Even Jake who had some trouble seemed to have been coping up well after his recent newfound love with Caitlyn. All those thoughts about his friends surpassing him just made him feel once again, depressed and alone. Even Leslie noticed his behavior whenever one of them in the group would say something that only 'smart people' would say and he would look uncomfortable.
And then it hit him.
Everyone had a plan after college– some even while in college.
Leslie wanted to be a writer, Sally, an actress, Jake wanted to be a musician, Damien a game developer, Amelia a model and for Caitlyn, to be a fashion designer which she only decided recently.
But what about him? What did he want to be? The thought never struck him as anything important before. He always answered with being a 'runner' or 'artist' whenever people would ask but lately for the past few months he had lost interest in both of them. They were merely just hobbies to him and not something he wanted to pursue as a profession.
This question was stuck in his mind all the way from LA until they were back in Virginia for winter break. The family was expecting Ellie's due to be near the end of December so it was a slight relief for him that he would be there with everyone to support his older sister. And when a few days passed with Jess seemingly avoiding both Leslie and Caitlyn's company, he was finally confronted by his little sister who was requested to do the questioning instead because he was avoiding Leslie.
"Spit it out!" May Belle demanded with an impatient tone.
"What?"
"Why are you avoiding everyone and Leslie?" She said to him, folding her arms. "Especially Leslie."
"It's just some adult stuff, alright? You won't understand." Jess sighed heavily and rolled his eyes.
May Belle seemed to have taken this as an insult because she suddenly reverted back to her 8 year old self when she would scream when she would be upset. "Just because it's adult stuff doesn't mean I won't understand it!"
"See, you screaming about such a trivial thing makes you immature and therefore means you won't understand it."
"And you talking as if you know everything makes you sound like an asshole." May Belle hissed, scowling at the words of her brother who sounded so full of himself and then left his room, slamming the door behind her before running down the stairs.
He kept his gaze on the ceiling of his room, deep thoughts entering his mind as he wondered about the near future of his life. Everyone had a plan, except him. Leslie had a plan, definitely. And he was sure that she was going to be brilliant at it. That was the problem. Everyone had their future all sorted out while he was still having problems with just passing his classes.
"My brother is a complete douche!" May Belle had barged into Leslie's room and just shrilled carelessly, making Bill pop into the room to see what the commotion was about.
"Is there a problem I can help with?" He said gently with a lifted eye brow, looking to May Belle and then to Leslie.
Leslie got up and showed a reassuring smile. "No, dad. It's OK." She said and quickly pushed him out of her room and closed the door. She looked back at May Belle who still looked upset from her past conversation with her brother. "So, what happened?"
