#27 A PROMISE TO HERSELF

Next day, the last day in Chennai for Shafna. Her eyes were puffy in crying and her face was pale. Her time to leave Chennai, to leave Hudson was fast approaching.

In the evening, Shafna left to bus stand with all her luggage. Her friends accompanied her to bid farewell to her.

Hudson told her that he would join them in the bus stand straight from his office.

Shafna was looking at the entrance of the terminal for him to arrive. Her bus to her hometown was just in front of her.

Only half an hour more for her to leave. But Hudson was not there yet. She called him and came to know that he was stuck up in traffic.

Chennai traffic.. Just ridiculous.. It gets you to nerves at the wrong timing.

Shafna was tensed. She didn't want to lose the 'may be' last chance to see him.

With the help of her friends, she placed her luggage inside the bus. Finally he was there.

Her friends left them alone knowing their situation. Shafna and Hudson were dumbstruck, they couldn't utter a word.

Shafna controlled herself from crying before him. They were standing opposite to each other just staring at the other.

All those beautiful moments spent together were flashing in their mind. Why should life be this hectic?

Their thoughts were disturbed by the horn sound of the bus. It was her time to leave.

Her friends came near her to say good bye to her. Shafna shaked hands with her friends saying bye to them.

Then she turned to Hudson.

I just want to freeze this time. I don't want to leave you Hudson. Please stop me. Please don't let me go from you. Hold me within your eyes dear. Cage me within your heart. Please.. Please..

Shafna went near him looking into his eyes. She gave him a tight hug.

At that moment, she forgot the crowd around her or that she was standing before the bus to her hometown. She felt only the pain of leaving him and nothing else mattered her.

I love you Hudson. I promise you I'll never leave you at any situation. This parting is not permanent. I'll come back to you at any cost.

She promised herself to somehow get back to him.

After that short and tight hug, she got into the bus. She didn't turn back to look at him.

She took her seat near the window. She felt giddiness and her hands were trembling.

Suddenly Shafna saw a hand towards her through the window. She looked out and saw Hudson with teary eyes standing there.

She held his hands tightly not wanting to leave him. The bus started moving slowly. He walked along with the bus holding her hands.

Shafna wanted to just stop the bus and run to him. May be it would happen in films but not in real life.

Since the bus started moving, they left their hands. The moving bus increased the distance between them.

Shafna was peeping her head out of the window and was looking at Hudson who was waving hands at her.

Till the bus went out of the terminal and until Hudson was out of sight, she was waving hands at him.

Now he was no where there.

The bus went fast and fast and it went to the outskirts of Chennai. Shafna sat like a statue ,couldn't believe that she actually left Hudson.

Once she came to her senses, she buried her face within her palms and started crying heavily. She sensed the girl sitting next to her was looking at her. But she didn't care.

She cried, cried and cried until she was left without any tears.

It had been three months since Shafna left Chennai. She joined in a small company in their hometown itself. She got some good friends there.

But her life was not better in any way. She didn't want to stay alone at home crying all the time. Only to avoid the loneliness, she joined that job.

In the meantime, Hudson joined in a better job in Bangalore. They used to talk sometimes but not often like before.

But the love on Hudson never decreased in Shafna's mind. It increased day by day and she missed him more and more by each day.

She lived in their past happy memories and with the hope of living with him in the future.

She made her own dream world with him. She dreamed of marrying him someday with her parents permission. She was ready to get their permission even if it would take years.

Shafna knew that he would also be like her, in her thoughts and would wait for years to marry her.

She always wanted to fulfill the promise she made him. But she never told that to Hudson. Even if she didn't tell him that she would wait for him, he would definitely know that.

It had been months since she met him. Hudson came to Nagercoil to visit her aunt. He came to meet Shafna in a hotel near her office.

Shafna wanted to hug him the moment she met his eyes. But she maintained a distance between them.

The distance was not that their love was not like before. It was because she didn't want to get closer to him again and hurt him again.

Next time, when she gets closer to him like the past days, would be after marrying him with her parents permission.

Once they get married, he would be hers and no one could come in between them. She wanted to wait till that day.

So Shafna controlled herself from being the normal Shafna, Hudson's Shafna.

She felt that he was also behaving the same way. May be he too didn't want to hurt her.

That distance really gave her so much pain. But she endured the pain to face the happy love filled future with him.

Shafna didn't want to give him any fake promises and fake assurances just in words. She wanted to prove her love to him.

This temporary parting would be followed by their happy married life. That was what she needed. And she waited for that.

After a year, Shafna's sister got married to a guy arranged by her parents. Even though her sister was married, her mom's perception about love didn't change.

Shafna still remembered the day her mom attempted suicide because of her sister's love. She was still afraid of losing her mom for her love.

She thought to wait until her mom understands her mind and accepts her love.
