They walked out the front door and Skulduggery shut it behind them. Valkyrie turned to smile at him as she neared the Bentley. She wasn't surprised that he still had it after all these years.
Her dark hair blew around her face in the morning wind, and she opened the passenger side door. She slipped inside, and her grin grew wider. The seat was in exactly the same position as she'd left it. Perfect. Skulduggery hadn't touched it at all. Not tinkered with it, not changed anything. Her heart felt like it was on a trampoline, bouncing up and down.
When he climbed in the drivers side, she had to stop herself from staring too much at his toned body. He looked at her and smiled. She clicked her seatbelt into place and settled herself in an overly dramatic way. He laughed, and it sounded like wedding bells.
Wedding bells? Where the hell had that come from? Wedding? Bells? She was getting way too ahead of herself now. She forced herself to calm down, and let her mind wander as she looked out the window. The landscape hadn't changed much. Still the same old Haggard, the same old sea. They passed the pier, and memories came flooding back into Valkyrie's mind. Some of them, she wished she could forget. They passed Gordon's house, and Valkyrie managed to stop the frown that was threatening to emerge. Her poor, dead uncle. Eleven years it had been since his death, and she still missed him.
She daydreamed for a bit, not talking much to Skulduggery at all surprisingly. She only became fully awake when they turned towards Roarhaven.
"What do you think we'll be doing today?" She asked him.
"I don't know. Probably something really dangerous."
Valkyrie shook her head.
"Thanks for narrowing it down for me, I appreciate that."Skulduggery didn't miss the humour behind her words. "Are you excited to finally see Tanith and the others again?" He asked.
"Hell yes! I missed all of them so much, but especially you."
She could practically see his ego glowing, and mentally slapped herself.
"Why thank you."
"Shut up."
Skulduggery smiled, and Valkyrie huffed.
"You still haven't lost your attitude after all these years," he told her."No," she replied. "I haven't. In fact, I think I've gotten sassier."
"You've always been sassy."
"I can't argue with that," she grinned. "If I die, don't take it hard."
"What do you mean?"
"Tanith is going to hug me to death."
"Oh, right."
Valkyrie let out a small groan, and a bad thought entered Skulduggery's head, but he shook it away.
"Something wrong?" Valkyrie asked him.
"Nope, nothing's wrong."
She smirked.
"Sure.""Just drop it Valkyrie."
"You're lucky I'm not really in the mood to argue with you right now."
