The Miraculous Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir is a popular, yet underrated show I recently discovered just a few months back. The show ran for four seasons with a total of 106 episodes, and just recently announced the fifth season. I'm SO looking forward to watching that because once I saw the first season, I binge-watched the rest in a flash. (#Relatable, right?)
Trying to deal with the waiting time, I went out to the big internet and started looking through one fanfic after the other, because, let's admit it, we all need our daily dose of Adrinette. Anyways, I kept reading and reading until I, by pure chance, discovered something really interesting! A fan theory, but not only a theory, also something I genuinely hope would become canon!
The theory theorizes that the events which take place in the series might not actually happen in the present; but rather are memories that Marinette wrote in her diary and now are being retold by Adrian. Why would Adrian retell Marinette's diary? Why, because they're married, and Marinette has memory loss, of course!
That conclusion probably seems like it came out of the blue, but in a way it makes sense. Firstly, it wouldn't be unlikely at all that those two get married eventually. Throughout the series, it is pretty clear that Cat Noir likes Ladybug and the other way around. Both of them are in the series title, hinting at a potential ship from the creator, and overall, they're just a pretty cute couple, in my opinion.
Secondly, we know from the canon material that Master Fu lost his memories when he handed over the Chinese Miracle Box to Marinette/Ladybug. Who isn't to say that Marinette, for whatever reason, decides to hand over the box to someone and then lose her memories, too? If this is the case, it makes sense that the series is called: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir. While Marinette is out of commission, Adrian retells those tales to help Marinette regain her memories.

At this point, nothing is confirmed, but even if it never is proven true, I can't be the only one who thinks the concept is interesting and really brings another level to Adrinette's relationship. Imagine the plot twist, if it is true, and also how much of a tearjerker that would be. We've seen them grow so much over the seasons and expect a happy ending, but BAM! Reality hits. If they take this road, I seriously hope Marinette will recover her memories before the series ends for good.
