Billy passed Ash the cigarette, his fingers lightly brushing her's. Taking a deep inhale of the Marlboro, she closed her eyes as she leaned further back into Billy's passenger side seat.

"What is it?" He asked, taking the cigarette back before putting it between his plump lips.

"I just don't want to go back in," she complained, staring at the high school in front of her.

Hawkins was the only place she had ever lived but even then, Ash never felt like she belonged there. Every friend group she found was fine, but it always felt like she was on the outside looking in. On most days, she couldn't decide if it was their fault or her's.

"We don't have to if you really don't want to," Billy shrugged, flicking the ashes out of the window.

"Don't be a bad influence," she scolded, closing her eyes again as she made a mental pro/con list of not finishing the day.

Pros: she didn't have to see anyone else's fake faces, she wouldn't miss much since it was only the last two periods of the day, and she could go home and sleep.

Cons: there were only two periods left, today was Thursday which meant there was school tomorrow anyways, and this was her last year of high school.

"Being a bad influence is what I'm the best at," Billy smirked, his head hitting his headrest as his eyes scanned you.

When Billy had first moved to Indiana, he never thought he would find someone to call a friend. Back home, his only friends were those he surfed with or played basketball with. He didn't really do friendship... well, more that he didn't know how to. Until he met Ash. She was loud, always said how she felt to anyone, and hated Indiana more than he did. He didn't think he would make a friend in the land of cornfields, nonetheless a friend who was a girl.

But Ash was his counterpart. They meshed so well after meeting at a party that Billy hadn't immediately tried to sleep with her. After a week of knowing her, he tried to drop hints that he wanted her in his bed, but she laughed in his face.

"So, what do you think about coming back to my place?" he had asked Ash, slinging an arm around her shoulders.

"Well yeah, I was planning on crashing on your couch, if your parents are cool with it again," Ash replied, her words slurring slightly as they walked the dead streets of Hawkins.

"You can sleep in my bed," Billy whispered into her ear, his hot breath hitting her skin.

"You're taking the couch?" she asked, becoming focused on matching their strides together.

"I mean, you can sleep with me, Ash. Sex," Billy laid it out, using the simplest terms he could think of.

Without even taking in the possibility, Ash stopped in her tracks, her hands covering her face. The cool air wrapped around them as silence engulfed them.
