@vampirjies EXACTLY. it feels like the never ending story of how black artists and creatives feel that they constantly have to prove to a world that undermines them. for example, these same racists will bring up white artists like the beatles in order to undermine beyoncé’s historic achievements. the fact that she, a black woman, has been in this industry for over three decades and has yet to ever fade from obscurity is what truly makes them livid. i also think that this shows how much non-black audiences will dismiss and demean black stories and experiences, especially those that expressed through music. at least until these stories and appropriated and commodified for their OWN comfort. so they don’t have to confront their own implicit biases.
