REVISION: as much as a love pjo and its universe, people like to ignore the fact that rr's representation is genuinely problematic. he's tried and failed representing poc and poc culture (hazel's 'cinnamon' hair,,,, wtf), foreign religion, "hot takes" on harmful stereotypes (piper wearing feathers in her hair and hating her culture), mental illness and disabilities (cough cough frank's hilarious comment about adhd), feminism (ie the hunters and percabeth's borderline physically abusive relationship), queer relationships and just teen relationships in general. not all representation is good representation yall,,, and while i believe rr's intentions were good his misogyny and racism, while unintentionally, did shine through. he's a rich, cishet, neurotypical white guy and it shows in his work.
@thiasus YESSSS ty for saying this !!! i definitely think it's cool that RR promotes diverse authors so that their representation can be in the spotlight now but sometimes it's too little too late bc his original rep of stuff was very questionable :/
