What is an unexpected pregnancy trope (in y’all’s words) and why don’t you like it?

What makes the pregnancy unexpected vs expected though? Technically if the characters aren’t PLANNING to have a baby, doesn’t that automatically make the pregnancy unexpected? Or does the problem lie when they act completely surprised like there was no way it could have happened?

Like for instance them having a only benefits relationship going on and then she gets pregnant. I HATE THAT . Because it just wasn’t apart of the plan and then the man gets like mad because she’s pregnant when he’s the one that didn’t wear a condom and it’s just all bad.
