          sapnap stood outside for far too long,  body heaving slightly while he started to sob slightly himself.  eventually,  he shakily took himself back inside to go back into karl’s room but the sight wasn’t any more relaxing than it had been when he first found karl,  any more relaxing that it had been every time he walked in there and saw the other in the exact same shape as before.  his life felt like it was falling apart.

          sapnap stared at quackity and his outburst,  lips parting in surprise.  he was crying?  he flinched?  what the fuck happened?  he just wanted to know what happened.  he just wanted to help him.  really …  he just wanted him back.  but that all went hand in hand.  " alex,  wait - ! "  he started but the other was gone.  sapnap turned back to the house,  feeling his own tears well in his eyes.  " fucking  / dammit /! "  he kicked at the dirt in frustration,  letting the hot tears slip down his face.  nothing was fixed.  quackity still hated them  ( maybe even more now )  and karl was still not okay. all he’d done was waste time.

          sapnap frowned,  eyebrows furrowed.  " that — that didn’t happen,  quackity, "  he responded,  shaking his head.  " both of us spent lots of time with you too.  all together and separately.  at least …  i know i did.  or tried to.  you started going and doing more stuff with l’manberg instead of being in el rapids.  you were busy.  you didn’t have time to sit around and have fun. "  he wouldn’t have set it like that if it hadn’t been a direct quote he remembered so clearly.

          sapnap’s lips parted,  mouth hanging slightly ajar as he watching the other walk away.  what was he supposed to do?  stop him again?  it just prolonged the inevitable and he saw that now.  but such pain struck in his chest as he watched him walk away.  just like that.  like nothing ever happened,  like there was nothing between them.  " can you at least tell me what happened? "  he had called out before he realized he was thinking it,  just wanting to get to the root of this,  and figure out where everything went wrong.  where quackity had been.  what happened to him.
