2024 update!

I am still in the process of editing Wilting. As of last night, I reposted Chapter Thirty, so these edits are halfway done now after two years!

I'm in my third year of my Ph.D., and, as such, I don't have much time to write anymore, but I am still working on Deliverance and one-shots here and there. Hopefully, I'll have a new chapter of Deliverance ready soon, and any one-shots will be posted to their corresponding books.

opugolora

Hey again . R you ever going to update the Abstraction Jurassic world dominion

Sierra_Laufeyson

@opugolora Hi, I'm in the middle of a Ph.D. program in Planetary Geology, so I do not have time to write outside of writing my dissertation and papers. In short, I want to finish the story. I do not like having unfinished WIPs, but I honestly do not know when I will have time.

Dear @Wattpad,

I cannot begin to explain how much I detest the automated messages you have begun sending writers. See the one I just received this morning below:

          "Hello!

Our system indicates that you have a story which hasn't been updated in a while. Our readers tell us that one of the biggest issues they experience is starting to read a story only to find out that it has stopped updating and has no ending.

If your story is complete, you can go into the “story details page” and mark the story as complete.

If your story is not complete, consider updating it as our discovery systems prefer stories that are regularly updated and are more likely to show those stories to more potential readers.

          This is an automated message."

I am a *fanfic* writer. This is not my job. It is a hobby. Some of my stories go months without seeing an update because I have a life and responsibilities outside of fanfic. I do not owe you my time or creativity. This message is no better than the modern readers who mindlessly consume "content" (of which fanfic and fanart SHOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED) and leave no interactions on stories besides a single comment of 'plz update.'

How about instead of antagonizing writers about their unfinished works (which is such a gross thing to do), you implement a decent search and tagging function? You stop demeaning and marking stories as private for mature content when I and others have clearly labeled and noted it contains such but promote the half-naked people on the covers of racy paid stories? How about you remember that this platform truly only came to where it is today because of the scores of fanfic writers who used it in the early 2010s? How about you go back to treating this like a site for stories instead of another lame social media platform?

Why does it matter to you if my story is incomplete? Oh, that's right, because you probably can't make money off of it.

          Kindly, piss off.

@SophiaMC456 Omg, heaven. Archive of Our Own is an archival-style website for fanfic with an amazing search and filtering system. AO3 also fights for the legal rights of those of us who create transformative works and it's just a really amazing place. The etiquette of posting stories there is a bit different than Wattpad, but from a reader's POV, you'll never want to come back here (IMO). This is my profile there: https://archiveofourown.org/users/alexiohs and if you're interested in signing up, I can provide you with an invitation!

Important update/PSA for everyone. At the end of the month (July 31, 2023), I will be unpublishing Faulty Code.

This is a decade-old story at this point, and of late, it's exhausting to see people fighting with one another in the comments of my story, to have people lecturing me over MCU canon when this story was planned and written well before Thor: Ragnarok was ever released (when there's a clear disclaimer at the start of the story), before the Infinity Saga, before whatever atrocious thing Disney+ is doing with Loki's character.

You've likely heard me voice my displeasure with Faulty Code multiple times over the last few years, but now it's grown to be too much, and I am doing this to protect my sanity and my readers. I hope you will understand my reasoning and respect this decision.

@Sierra_Laufeyson Thor: Ragnarok actually did right to/with Loki's character by me. But not the TV show.

@princesscamillia13 ty ty and in my experience, no you're not the only one. almost everyone I met in the early days of the MCU/Loki fandom (circa 2010-2013) absolutely detests the show and what it (and Thor: Ragnarok, lbr) did to Loki's character.

@Sierra_Laufeyson One, I totally understand why you're doing this! I'm glad you are since it's the best thing for you!
Two, am I not the only one who dislikes the Loki Disney+ show!?

Near mid-year update!

I'm officially a Ph.D. candidate now and will soon have another paper published —the first chapter of my dissertation! But my writing time for fanfic is still limited.

With that said, here are some updates for my stories:

          1. Wilting (Sandor Clegane) has now been edited through chapter twenty-two — I will still be revising this book in the near future to change the tense, add some easter eggs for Fire and Blood/HotD, and fill some lingering plot holes.

          2. A new chapter for Kryptic (Deimos) was posted — it's still my intent to finish this story before the year's end, and I have one more chapter planned.

          3. Deliverance (Arthur Morgan) is ongoing and also saw a new chapter posted last month — the next update is in the works.

          4. I have a little tie-over chapter for Abstraction (Owen Grady) almost ready to be posted, but I do not know when I will be able to fully delve back into this story to write in the plot of Dominion and wrap everything up.

          5. I've some new one-shots (e.g., John Marston, Arthur Morgan) sprinkled here and there throughout my drabble and one-shot books. Currently, I'm working on a one-shot for King Arthur (Charlie Hunnam), King Ecbert (Vikings), and Arthur Morgan, so you can expect to see those posted throughout the year.

          That's about it for now!

Sierra_Laufeyson

Hi everyone! Just thought I'd give you an update on what I have planned for 2023!

First, I am deep into my Ph.D. program and time to write fanfic is extremely limited. With that said, I plan to finish Kryptic this year (I have 2–3 more chapters planned) and continue writing for Deliverance. Edits for Wilting will be ongoing, and eventually, I'd like to pick back up with Abstraction, but I cannot say when that will happen at the moment (I am working on a new chapter to lead up to the events of the latest movie, though). Lastly, any one-shots I write will be uploaded to their appropriate books.

With that, I do have one question for you all. As you've probably seen, I've written a number of one-shots for House of the Dragon, do you think I should make a separate book for GoT/HotD one-shots and drabbles?

Honestly to god felt like I lost braincells watching Rings of Power last night. What a disgrace to Tolkien’s legacy. Shame on Amazon for thinking they could write the novel Tolkien never could.

kilrkairi

@Sierra_Laufeyson Yes, that's definitely what makes it all the more worse. Drawing both sides in to watch it and then cherry picking what reactions to showcase. It's definitely enraging, but heartbreaking at the end of the day. Because this may very well be many people's first introduction to the franchise and it's fans, an awful one at that, and seeing how so many people these days don't care to look any further they'll just continue on in naivety with the impression that this is how it really is.

@kilrkairi I think right now, the most infuriating thing about all this is the blatant censorship and manipulation by Amazon to make the show look like a success while painting fans in a negative light. I wrote a fairly detailed review on IMDb with a 4/10 rating that cited passages from the books and quotes from Tolkien's own letters, and it has been deleted. Every review under 6/10 is gone. And I've seen critical reviews being deleted from Rotten Tomatoes too. Very sad state of modern media and entertainment right now.

@Sierra_Laufeyson Agreed, even though I never watched it let alone saw a trailer. I hate not going and actually seeing things for myself since news can get so twisted, but I didn't want to give a single drop of attention or money to it. I wholeheartedly believe that Rings of Power was never going to be anywhere near the jurisdiction of "good" from the moment I heard about its making. A friend of mine read a summary of it to me and I scoffed with such bitterness, I just knew that the beauty of Tolkien's story would go right over Amazon's head. Heck, I don't think they even cared about it, just wanted to take the next big classic they could find and tear into it for profit, knowing both people who hated it or would fall for it would watch just to see what all the mess was about, like people who stop up the highway to gawk at a car wreck.
