I'm a mom, wife, printmaker, professor, and National Geographic Explorer. I study civic engagement and marine debris, training communities to collect data using scientific methods to share results with local policymakers. It is inspiring and depressing all at once.

I write about big, complex problems: dependence on technology (in this or another century), political corruption, destruction of the planet, and climate change.

If you're interested in the marine debris work, the best place to see updates is on Insta: https://www.instagram.com/katowens2012/

I'm on twitter but I secretly hate it. https://twitter.com/KO_InsectWrtr
