@LLSanders has been my Wattpad friend since the first month I joined. And that’s why I couldn’t be happier that her story, “The Death of Me” makes my MVP list. This is for the best of the best I’ve found on Wattpad, and this is the best of hers I’ve read yet. A stellar slow burn thriller with real character development and plenty of tightly woven red herrings to keep you guessing.

Only the second non-horror story ever to hit my MVP list, y’all! It’s The God Complex by @a_pintobean with a sci-fi adventure/comedy that’s a little bit Ender’s game and a little bit Terry Pratchett. There characters that you’ll love, hate, pity, or maybe all three... and moments that will make you want to cheer or hiss out loud. Absolute blockbuster! I found it as part of the 2020 Summer Reading Challenge #WP2020 and you can hit the link below to check it out for yourself!

@IanRCooper Wow, this is huge! I'm honoured to make it up there with the big boys and will praise Alan with bacon flavoured sacrifices for your generosity in doing this. Hope there are some new updates on The Gravity Myth coming soon, I'm getting withdrawals.

The 2020 Summer Reading Challenge rolls on, and it’s not too late to join! There’s prizes and shoutouts for overall and weekly winners. The contest keeps going into late September, so hit the link at the end to find out how to participate, win, and discover some great new writers!

Speaking of winners, this week it’s @Nacht_Owl , @EmilyBurke19 , @Lvcky_Vi , and @TsheringYekzin taking the crowns! And honorable mention to @ruzlan1109 . Congrats to all of you, you all are some beastly readers!

This week, we’re adding Who We Were by @ajwinde and Hamburger Hamlet by @mestrin . I read Prometheus Framed by mestrin and it was a hilarious mashup of mythology and journalism. I expect another quality subversion of classics in his new work. Looking forward to checking out ajwinde, this is what the Challenge is all about! Finding your new favorites!

Greetings from the suck, y’all! It’s hotter than a dog’s ass in a fleece parka sittin next to your dad’s grill at a 4th of July cookout.

@IanRCooper Right. I hope this mess goes away and soon. People are comparing this to Tangled. COVID and the name of Rapunzel’s kingdom was Corona. Stuck in a tower for eighteen years and her hair grew 70 feet in length. If this pandemic doesn’t go away soon, we might all have to start growing our hair.

Ian, enjoyed your work of Birthright. Curious about where the idea came from. Sounds so much like the mountain clans and their mysterious rhymes and rhythms. I still remember the stories..the old ones, but to new ears. It's all about family. Folklore I love, which most times is not lore aftr all.

IanRCooper

@womanofthewoods Hey, thanks for reading! I’m from the Deep South, with family ties to the Ozarks, so a lot of the religious subtext came from my upbringing. I’d like to think the Cartwrights are from somewhere around the Ark-La-Tex connection, where the red clay meets the backwaters.

I’d have to say my biggest inspiration was Shirley Jackson’s “The Lottery” as it borrows heavily from that Southern Gothic tone and clandestine arc. Thanks for asking!
