"So I just watched a tiktok. And it made me cry, yo. It was a mother talking about how she and her husband sat their 8 year old daughter down to tell her about different types of families, aka couples of the same sex, since they thought they were pretty progressive. But when they told her that some families could have two mommies or daddies instead of one mommy and one daddy, the daughter was all like, "ewwwww." And the parents were all shocked and asked her why and who taught her that. Then the girl told them that no one did and that she always saw that families on TV had one mommy and one daddy and it would be wrong to see two men or women hugging, hand-holding, etc. like how a "normal couple", would. I was shocked at first, but then I just started crying. Is this truly what's being taught to children? That a "normal" couple should be made of a man and woman?? And that any other relationship is wrong??? Love is love! Heterosexuality should not be the default, nor should it be forced on children that don't fully understand what love is in every aspect including the word and it's feelings. I'm ashamed to be part of a society that isn't wholly accepting. I'm hurt."
This is from a great person on this very platform @Such_A_Nobody . When I read this I realised that the society we live in, the very one in which we celebrate pride month , give them a special flag and tell them that we respect them never thought about such an issue! Why did we never take a step to make sure that 'heterosexuality isn't default' reaches the younger generations and that having two moms or two dads is just normal!!? Why? Are we really accepting or are we just pretending ? They don't need us to make them feel special, they need to feel that being LGBTQ+ is normal and they don't have to be ashamed of it!
And while typing this I noticed that G-board doesn't even have 'moms' in its dictionary! It underlined it!! Seriously? When are we going to learn? I can't believe I'm a part of this society.
