Effie Trinket

The monster towers over me, its black tendrils reaching out, as if to embrace my shaking body. I fall, numb with the cold. 

Help

I can do nothing as the monster starts to devour me, stabs of agony reaching through the unending numbness. My mind crowds, and every ray of light and warmth leaves the room.

'You're worthless. You're weak. You can't do anything right. You let everyone down. It would be better for the world if you just disappear.'

These thoughts attack me mercilessly as the monster consumes me. I curl up, trying to protect as much of my broken body as I can, and sob. My body shakes, and my throat clogs up. I can't breathe. I am going to die here, with the monster feeding off me. Nobody loves me.

There's heat. I lift my head. Something is sitting on my knee, staring up at me. Golden light radiates off of it. A fairy. It flutters up to my face and touches it with a tiny, warm hand. It then taps it's mouth, which is curled up into a big grin. 

Smile.

The fairy then rubs it's hand together. An object forms in them. A pen. A beautiful one too, with black barrel and silver engravings. The fairy holds it out to me. I lift a hand and close my fingers around it. 

The tiny ball of light disappears, leaving me with the monster and a sword in the place of the pen I was holding. The blades shines silver, and the hilt is velvet smooth.

Without a second thought, I stand and swing the sword through the monster's goopy body. It screeches in pain, and withdraws, disappearing into the darkness. My head clears. 

I look around and see that I'm on the floor of my room. There is a beautiful fountain pen in my hand. I hold it close.

The monster is gone, for now.
