The predicament Kip and Reina found themselves in is based on something that actually happened here in Tucson. A "monsoon" storm caused a huge sinkhole that no one knew about, on a frontage road, and a truck flew into it, drowning the two passengers when it flipped over on the way down and trapped them under a few feet of water below. I've never forgotten hearing that on the news. Here's how Dakota, Mick and Ty handle this catastrophe in "Rancho Viejo." https://www.wattpad.com/918908363-rancho-viejo-29

Falling behind again on my "Thank yous" to new and long time readers of all my novels, especially "The Middle Passage" and "Rancho Viejo." Getting my own two novels and my mentee's AMAZING WIP ready for The Wattys is taking up all my time--and I'm lovin' it, by the way. But I don't like it when I miss new readers or long time readers who take the time to read and vote. So here's another big HUG and shout out of deepest gratitude for the support from all my Wattpad "peeps," who remind me, daily, why I write and how my writing speaks to people from all corners of the globe. What an honor that is!

@MoodyMooseMouse I've seen you there! You're in one of the sections that was hardest to navigate, so I'm thrilled that you're "feelin'" it. That story grew organically from so many different experiences and feelings and yearnings and...God, all kinds of things. So it was even more unruly than most of my "pantser" pieces. And yet...it seems to move people deeply. And that, in the end, is all I ever want to do. So YAY! Cause comin' from a writer who blows my mind DAILY...this is good news indeed!

@CynthiaDagnal-Myron I've been swept away in The Middle Passage the last few nights. I'm worried for Damon. ❤️

Our beautiful "spirit sister" Ravi, the cat who cuddled with and purred beside us for 17 years just passed away peacefully. She brought us joy and taught us more than words can say while we had the honor of her presence...

Your support is deeply appreciated. Such an odd weekend this was! First, I fell and banged up my knees...then my AC went out on the hottest weekend of the year so far (106 degrees no less). And then Ravi decided it was time to go. She'd gotten my daughter all the way through high school and college and on into motherhood. She and our other beloved four legged, Bijou, who arrived and left first, were like two more little baby girls to me. But all of you who have pets know what I mean. They loved us through life, and left, gracefully, whey they felt their missions were accomplished. Hurts...but I am grateful for having had them in our lives...

Okay, I'm going to say it again. I'm going to say it as often as I feel like saying it, too, because it's important to me--THANK YOU, all of you, who've just found and begun reading "The Middle Passage" recently. And thank you to those of you who've discovered my other work through "Passage," and begun reading that, too. I can't keep up with all the comments the way I'd like, or I'd never be able to write anymore. But you are loved and appreciated.

These are little bits of my soul being bared for the world to see, and when you tell me I've touched your souls with them...I can't tell you how deeply you move me. So bless you all, stay safe, be well...and I'll keep writing for you for as long as I can!

This installment of "Rancho Viejo" was a BEAR, I'm not going to lie. I'm still having trouble adapting screenplay "cuts" to an acceptable novel form. And this chapter is the start of lots of bouncing between what's going down with poor Reina and the wild and crazy "barn dance" where her mother and Mick are the stars of the show. But I think the momentum's picking up just as I wanted it to, wonky though it may be on this first run through. And I hope you enjoy it, too! https://www.wattpad.com/903331243-rancho-viejo-25
