Legally Blonde pissed me off :|

The whole basis of the plot was this girl forcing herself into this college and this career just to seek validation from a guy that blatantly stated that he didn’t want to be with her and that she didn’t need in the first place. That’s the entire reason she wanted to go to law school and a large bit of the reason she got in in the first place was the video she made barely clothed to try and persuade them to let her in. :|

It also paints women as vain, idiotic, self-centered and only caring about fashion. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great for people to be interested in fashion and the fashion industry is so creative and influential, but women have more interests than just beauty and what they put on their backs. Fashion is also deeper than what they present. These types of characters can be seen in the main character and her friends, and only the antagonist type women weren’t painted in this way.

I will admit that the MC wasn’t a COMPLETE dumbass and that she got better and more independent towards the end, but it would have been so so so much nicer to have her value education as a whole for like any other reason than seeking male validation.

I did enjoy Holland Taylor’s character tho she was a bad bitch :)

@-VINT4GER0SE- I totally respect and understand that. The stereotypes of women were portrayed ridiculously on purpose (kind of satirically) in the film to emphasize the comic aspects of the story. I didn't take it too seriously because I'm sure it was satire but a more positively representative version of this movie would be great at portraying a more serious and emotional transformation within Reese's character that could appeal to more people trying to figure out who they are.

@-CENTRALPERK I did think it was good when she undermined the dumb blonde stereotype , I kinda feel like that’s pretty much all she did tho and her growth was good towards the end but throughout the whole film most of the women were very, I guess, boy-crazy and that bothered me bc it pitted women against each other for like no reason and I’m probably over analyzing this lol and ranting but yeah idk it was fine I just didn’t like it much

@roarhoe I can see that,, and I think that her growth is one of the reasons she became more bearable towards the end of the movie,, but there are so many demeaning stereotypes throughout the whole film that I’m not sure it can over-shine all of that completely. There were stereotypes too that didn’t even apply to her at all, from what I perceived, like making lots of the law students almost nerdy. All-in-all I didn’t enjoy the movie much and thought it was quite problematic with lots of misrepresentation,, particularly of women, their interests and their role in society.
