There's nothing like the beauty of the sea--when all is right. Its shoreline can entice one to walk along it. Its crashing waves can soothe a troubled mind. Its fish and world can both feed humans and mesmerize them. But with the dawn of plastics, came the doom of the oceans--long before anyone knew it. Had people not tossed their single-use plastics into the sea, a harrowing evolution would not have taken place. The water world and its fish would have continued to flourish. But they didn't. What could be the horror of a plastic-tossing mistake?

We did it, we filled the oceans with so much plastic that all the marine life has died. The water and air currents have been disrupted, and nothing grows anymore. There is no food. Only that that we can scrub off the plastic trash we filled the seas with.

Beaching: A phenomenon in which whales and dolphins strand themselves on land, usually on a beach. Sometimes when returned to the water, they simply re-strand. No one's sure why they do that. But one thing's clear: they don't want to go back. *** My second entry for National Geographic's writing competition, #PlanetOrPlastic.

The Pod centers around a young man's adventure in a place he never knew existed with the help of a beautiful woman who lived there. I am among the lucky ones to write an entry on behalf of National Geographic & Planet or Plastic. As someone who loves nature, I always hoped more people will realize the issues our planet is facing today which is why I am very honored to be a part of this campaign.

~One Story. An Ocean of Changes.~ We may have tried, succeeded or failed at stopping the use of plastic, but do the innocent lives under water know anything about what we're doing or trying to do up here? ____________________________________________ "Have you heard about the killer roses, Shelly?" "...um no nana. " "It was a long, long time ago when they first appeared, when the Humans started throwing things into our home." _____________________________________________ This story is an original work of fiction, my ripple in the ocean that we need to take care of. My official entry into the #PlanetOrPlastic short story competition initiated by @NationalGeographic to create awareness about what plastic can do to our home, our Mother Earth. 04/12/18 : #1 in Water Pollution

I think my grandfather was kidding... Oceans of salty water full of marine animals? It's impossible! I shouldn't have believed in that! Grandpa liked to make fool of me. Oceans full of water? Really? How could I believe it...? This is my first entry for the National Geographic Planet or Plastic writing contest. English isn't my first language so it wasn't really easy to write this story, but I had a lot of fun doing it. I knew it would be hard, but I really wanted to try. I hope you'll like it!

~ COMPLETE ~ The #PlanetOrPlastic writing contest (by @NationalGeographic) inspired me because the topic is so important to me, to all of us I hope. I know the deadline's past. I know my story's over 500 words. But I still wanted to share it. I think it's always nice to read and react. Particularly on a subject like this one. So here you go. Hope it'll bring about discussion and reflection. Also hope you'll like the main character ^^ P.S. : Please be gentle because I haven't really re-read it. And English isn't my mother tongue. So there WILL BE grammar errors or such. P.P.S.: It's not actually only focusing on the #PlanetOrPlastic topic... it's also about hazing. Bullying and fighting against bullying is for me one of the most important things in the world.

I'm really proud to write this story as an entry to the #planetorplastic campaign with National Geographic. I had a National Geographic subscription as I grew up. I have fond memories of the stacks of yellow spines in our bookcase and flicking through the pages. It really helped form my view and philosophy on the planet, people and our role in it from a young age. This is something very different from what you would usually see from my writing - this is my personal experience with freediving and how it brought me closer to the Ocean and helped reveal our role in it. I will preface all of this with the sacred rules of freediving; if you want to try it (and I suggest you do!) contact a professional instructor for training and you should never, ever, ever freedive alone.
