Love can be the death of someone. No, he’s obsessed with her, killing every male who so much as looks at her the wrong way whilst using the body of the 1865 Lord Bray who also fell in love with Maria as punishment of killing her. Death paid a price. His price was that he had to harvest the souls of the recently departed for all of eternity whilst in the body of the man she chose over him, forever to be painfully reminded that she will never love him but instead Lord Bray. Now Death has to destroy her. The Devil told Death that once she was reincarnated from the Lady Maria Susannah Knighting-Gale he would have to harvest her at around the age he had killed her, which coincidently was age twenty. Three years to kill the one you love more then your soul, again. Even worst, he's driving her insane. Literally.
