"What do we do now? The whole town's gone, everyone is gone!! What do we do?" He asks, his blue eyes twinkling in the sun. He looks into my eyes, panic lingering on his features. The others stay silent and look at us, waiting for the answer they knew already but refused to believe. I take a deep breath and look away; look at anything but them. My eyes settled on the city ahead. The smoke coming from it filled the air, making it hard to breathe, even though we're a couple miles away. I look away and concentrate on something else. The sun. It's shining bright and beautiful as always. As if today was just like any other day. Like I wasn't standing here with a bunch of strangers, planning a way to keep ourselves alive and look for others; look for help. But it was, and even though I didn't want to accept it, nothing would ever be the same. Not with them walking around, groaning and trying to eat each and one of us. And my choice of crew wasn't helping at all, but hey, they were the first humans I saw, and probably the only humans I'll see for a while. This shit would be a lot easier if he didn't make me feel the way I do. This wasn't how I planned to meet him. Heck, I didn't plan to meet him at all. But now he's not a pop star, he's not famous. He's just a human, like every single one of us, a human that has to survive and fight with his instincts in order to live for another day. So I stood up straighter, trying to find my voice. "What we're going to do-," I start, but my voice was hoarse so I cleared my throat to continue. "What we're going to do is survive."
