It is Eugenia Burnham's first season, and she couldn't be more nervous. Her mother expects her to marry well, and when a lady's maid doesn't stay more than a few weeks at a time, it seems an impossible task.

Mr. Gerard Landon has been kind to her, and Eugenia hopes that she can keep his attention. When so many other, more beautiful, young ladies around her, she believes it will take a miracle for her to have a happy ending.
