"Don't be naïve, Michael," the words flow uncontrollably now, tears streaming down your cheeks, "look around! They--" "I said stop it, Mary!" he hollers and jumps up from the couch clapping his hands in fury. "Why?" you bristle, "Does the truth bite you in the ass?" "Maryam," he hisses tartly. The change in his tone is so unnatural that it almost transfixes you. But it's already impossible to stop the chain reaction he has launched. "Don't you see? No one out there, NO ONE wants you to be happy, accomplished and satisfied with your life," you wipe your nose with the sleeve of your blouse, "Happy people don't write heart wrenching songs and don't sing their soul out on stage like you do. They need that fracture in you, that anguish." You don't want to cry but once again the unwelcome tears spring from your eyes. Anger, hurt, love, dismay... It's too hard to regain your composure, and you let the tears stream freely down your face.
