The first ever recorded mutant was in 1963, not long after the Cuban Missile Crisis. Subject (no Patient) 0.0045 was experiencing pain in his upper back. By time the nurses had arrived, bloody wings had formed from his back, connecting to his vertebrae. He was the first mutant ever recorded.

He was not the last.

Soon after, a school specifically designed for the gifted was opened, by Charles Xavier I.

Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.

The school Zoya Winters was to attend.
