Their world is on the brink of a war.

Madge Undersee, the daughter of a low ranking political official who screwed up. She now pays for his grievances by competing in the annual deathmatch, the Hunger Games.

Gale Hawthorne, a survivor. Born into a poor family of coal miners and has been fighting to keep his family alive since he was fourteen. His brother was picked for the games and the young renegade now plays in his place.

The two must compete in a game of life and death.
