Chapter 1

He paused, his full lips a breath away from hers. The scent of apples slid down his throat and the world around him blurred. And for a moment there was no bet, no Illuminati, and no Hell. There was only him and her.
His eyes drifted to her mouth, savouring the feeling. "Do you want me to stop?"
Her lips tightened briefly in uncertainty, as if she was caught up in some internal struggle he was not privy to despite their wordless connection. A struggle that went deeper than the mind could fathom. He waited, the agony of anticipation making his knees weak. To his immense relief, resolve lightened her expression.
"No," she breathed.
"Good." He cupped her delicate face in his powerful hands. Her cheeks were plump and velvety. "Because I really don't want to."

On the outside Blaine Lycanos is living the dream. He's young, attractive, and owns the Parisian fashion scene. But what no one else knows is that Blaine is a demon, and a member of an ancient secret society that is covertly enslaving the human race.

But Blaine, though hardened by his hatred of humanity, is bored of their simplicity. He is disillusioned and existential, and as a result looks for new projects to occupy his time. He eventually comes across an innocent human girl, Andromeda Ives, who appears immune to demonic devices and he sets his sights on her. However, the two soon come to engage in a bizarre friendship, and in spite of much inner conflict, Blaine falls in love with Andromeda after his attempts to corrupt her prove futile.

Set in present day Paris and filled with demons, angels, millennials, and more, Illuminated follows its anti-hero Blaine through a sexual awakening unlike any other and leads up to a climactic realisation with apocalyptic consequences.
