At what point is a superhero actually just a psychopath in a mask?

The Lord of the Night, a local legend who goes about making the city a safer place. His own methods have been criticisied by many as "Excessively violent" and he's been called a "Vigilante". But of course things like this just get in the way of the superheroics.

What happens when this masked loner is caught in the mind of a young boy? After all, we all try to emulate our heroes. But is Lord really the Silver Age comic hero that the boy envisions, or is there something going on behind the mask.
