When Cheyenne Police Chief Mathias follows the Acura MDX out of boredom--and because the SUV does not seem to fit the reservation--he is not prepared for the admirable way the driver pulls out of a spin trying to avoid hitting a deer. He is even less prepared to find that the driver is a woman, and moreover, until recently a member of the FBI. Sparks seem to be flying, but will either be willing to give in to love and passion, as well as find out the culprit behind the murder of two teenage girls--if there is only one... Walt Longmire is the sheriff of Absaroka County, Wyoming, who lost his wife over a year ago. To deal with it, he tries to shut things out by throwing himself into his work. He and Mathias often find themselves in overlapping situations, where there is inevitably conflict and turf wars. When they can they try to cooperate, but with two strong egos things do not always go well. Alia Kassam is Lebanese and Canadian, and has just quit the FBI. She is trying to help a family friend locate a missing daughter. She did not expect that a deer would run across the road as she was driving and even less to meet the Cheyenne police chief. Sparks are flying between the two of them, and love is never successfully denied. Will she be able to fit in to his world? Or want to? But nothing, it seems will keep them apart. This is not your usual "Longmire" story. I don't like Walt and do not like Vic. What I really like is the Native American characters--Jacob, Mathias, Henry, and sometimes even Malachi.
