Septimus is a rogue whose mother's death has haunted him since the day it happened. One day he hears about the great Clans and of their mysterious powers, inside his head, a plan forms.

He leaves on a journey along with a group of unfamiliar acquaintances, and together they discover every secret that has ever been hid inside the Clans, including a dangerous legend called the Last Moon.

Can they save the Clans from the legend becoming true, or is it too late?
