The empire truly wanted him for something. They knew of his force sensitivity and used it as an advantage for their power, and turned him into a weapon. Broke him. A year later, the ghost crew are sent on a mission to save a child out of the empires hold, not knowing that it was Ezra they were told to save. But they were to late, Ezra was already a weapon.
