Introduction

In the summer of 1899, fifteen year old Louise migrates to New York City, where her life begins to feel out of her control until she meets the newsies and an unbreakable friendship begins.

"Newsies?"

"We buy the papes from the big guys, sell 'em to da little guys on the streets. Doesn't sound all that glamorous, but it's a fine life in my opinion."

"You don't have a home?"

"We got the lodging house to keep us for the night. But we don't got parents or siblings if that's what you are askin' me."

"Where are all your parents?'

"Dead or as good as that. We're all orphans and runaways, but we're more than that when we're together. We's a family."
