The Engagement

When African inventor, Nala Tinibu, is sold into an arranged marriage, a monster of a husband is the worst horror she expects at her engagement ball. But the soiree aboard the naval ship holds deeper and darker secrets below the surface. Secrets that somehow include Nala's prized invention, a device that allows her to speak to animals. And when deadly sea creatures crash the party, it's up to Nala to either call off the beasts and save her engagement or risk a watery grave.

The Engagement is a Steampunk short story, set in the same world as the Chronicles of Light. Characters in this story will make another appearance in A Danger in the Deep, sequel to A City in the Air.
