There are the Kings and the Queens ; who serve as the rightful leaders. There are the Knights and the Bishops ; the hunters and the wise. And then there's Rayne Parker, a valuable pawn playing a game of live or die, being at the same time in no control of his own life. Being a pawn means not being in charge, means following the rules and obeying the moves of the 'player'. That was the ISAA. They were the 'players' in this injustice game of chess. They controlled Rayne's every move. If he made a bad move, someone else would suffer as a consequence of his actions. And he hated every second of being the cause of someone's death.
