Chapter 1 - We are at war

Britain declares war with Germany. Alice Hardwick, a poor farmer's daughter from Northumbria, soon finds herself swept up in the chaos of war. When a letter to her cousin get's mixed up in the post, she soon starts writing to a mysterious officer in the army, and falling for him.
