"oh right! about my son-" she started saying when I heard the front door open downstairs.

"mum? we're here! where is she?" someone called. his voice sounded familiar, but I wasn't sure where I recognized it from.

"hey guys, we're up here in the spare bedroom!" Karen called back, closely followed by the sound of footsteps coming up the stairs. "don't freak out" she quickly whispered into my ear.

when her parents are killed in a car crash, Amber is put into a foster home with her little sister. soon enough, her sister gets adopted, and she's left all alone. that is, until she gets adopted by an Australian family, and moves across the globe to have a complete change of lifestyle.
