Description

My life changed the minute I met those boys and there was no going back, there was no hesitating. I grabbed his hand and pulled myself onto the ledge. My vision became a blurry mess as I wobbled just a fraction in fear. Nausea set in but before I could follow through, each hand was being grasped and pulled to my predicted death. While falling to your death takes only seconds of time, the illusion was hours and hours of time to contemplate my entire life. It was as if time had frozen in mid-air. I thought about every foster home I had been put into, how not a single one felt like a home. I thought about the people I had imagined my parents to be and the small country home I dreamed they lived in. There were mistakes and dreams and heartbreaks and soon, none of that mattered. White light engulfed my thoughts. It was so bright it was blinding and I had the sudden curiosity if I was seeing the white light that was associated with crossing over when you die. The bright light dimmed and slowly there was nothing at all. I lowered my arm that I had been using as a shield and observed the nothingness surrounding me. I saw ash for miles, buildings were crumbled in heaps on the ground and the air was filled with a foggy residue much like the atmosphere after a large fire. I glanced back at the two males, who had become my guides for the time being, despite my mixed emotions towards the both of them. "Where are we?" "Markadia."
