Vera wasn't expecting a surprise visit from fake cops and she wasn't expecting them to try and drag her from her house to kill her. Running from her home, she is launched into a secret world where the color of your eyes determines everything.

Sometimes it determines whether you live or die.

With eyes the color of a bouquet of marigolds, Vera can heat her body to sizzling degrees and learns that her newfound friend, Grant, can control her mind and body with his eyes the color of coal.

Talk about a seventeenth birthday, right?
