"Something is rotten in the forests of ThunderClan."

Aspenheart is the son of Cedarstar, and the deputy of ThunderClan. But when his father is murdered, he goes into such a state of grief that his uncle, Pinepelt, is 'forced' to go to the moonpool in his place, right after taking Aspenheart's mother as a mate. Aspenheart is disgusted.

Then, one night, Aspenheart sees Cedarstar's spirit outside the ThunderClan camp, urging him to avenge his death. But Aspenheart is unsure whether the spirit is indeed that of his father, whether Pinescar is really guilty, and whether the young deputy is really strong enough to do this.
