"I tried so hard to stay away from you, to keep you out of this." He whispers, his voice low and tinged with defeat and despair. "I never wanted them to find out about you-that way they couldn't take you away from me." He mumbles, finally raising his gaze to me. His eyes are dark, the usually bright jade muddied with something heavy that I can't place.

I wait for him to say more but instead I'm met with silence, left even more confused than before. "Take me away? What would they want with me? I'm a human." I ask, starting to doubt even that fact from the look in Michael's eyes while I speak.

"But you're more than that, Y/n." He confesses, fiddling with the hem of his shirt. "You're a human destined to be bonded with a werewolf."
