I firmly grabbed ahold of her bronze mane as we were led into the gate. She didn't even think twice about what laid ahead. She was strong; brave...ready, to go against all odds. To prove the doubters wrong. Sweat overcame my hands, and my heart was racing a mile a minute. I was nervous, excited, and exhilarated. I looked to either side of me and saw a very fine lineup of competitors, challengers. They were big, bold, fearless, probably laughing at us in the face. A scrawny 15 hand mare and a nobody 21 year old girl. I didn't blame them. The last gate clicked closed, and I felt her tense beneath me. She raised her head and her legs tightened. Her breaths became mighty, heavy. She was ready...but I still don't know if I was. The bell rang, and the gates flew open. She bolted forward, like she was released from a slingshot; like a champion. I've never felt her run so hard. It was at that moment that I knew this was our game. It was at that moment, that I swear we were infinite.
