Description

His skin smelled of crushed grass and cheap hotel soap masking the salty-sweetness of his skin after a long practice. I reached up and wrapped my arms around his neck, burying my face in the worn, ancient cotton of his Bainbridge Soccer t-shirt. The material smelled sweet, like stale cologne and churned-up dirt from the field. He wrapped his arms around me and planted a kiss on my rain-dampened head before resting his chin on my hair. I leaned into his embrace, my arms tucked up in between our bodies, soaking up his comforting warmth. I closed my eyes. The air was thick and heavy with a storm, the atmosphere hanging around our ears. The rain had already started trickling down but it would no doubt come pouring down at any moment. A continuous, chilly breeze cut through the ample space of my sweatshirt and bit through the stifling air. "I missed you," I breathed, cheek resting on his chest. "I missed you too." I felt the vibration of his voice all the way through my body, it was so strong and reassuring. The fuzzy rumble of thunder snarled in the distance, followed by another blinding flash of lightning. "Spencer! Ryan! You two coming or do we need to book you a room?" "Shut up, Jake." I pulled away from Ryan and pat his chest awkwardly. He laughed and grabbed my hand, small in his own. He swung my arm back and forth as we walked over to the huddle of people doing their best to stand against the rain.
