Until the Voices Begin

My breath quivers. I'm on edge as I walk home alone. It's dark out, one street lamp casting more shadows here and there. My legs wobble and my hands shake. A cold gust of wind pierces through my jacket. I shiver. But it's more than just the wind. A cold hand of fear slithers up my spine. That's when I hear the low, long, raspy whisper.
