Chapter One: The Artist's Life in Pennington

Charlotte Lavalle, a 19 year old artist, lives an average life in the cold and mundane city of Pennington, New York. Charlotte sees an add in the local paper about talented adults in the arts needed to teach young children in Iran. Seeing this as a perfect opportunity as an escape from her boring, cold town, she signs up. At this school she meets an Iranian teacher named Jane, of whom she falls madly in love with. Because LGBT representation and relationships are punishable by torture or death in Iran, Charlotte's life takes an unexpected turn.
