Regret

The last thing he wanted to do is hurt her even more but everything was left unsaid that night. He had left it all behind, and couldn't bring himself to care anymore. Here he was again, pulling out another cigarette. Thinking of her, he almost put it back in the box, but it didn't matter anymore. He wasn't getting out of this one. For once in his life all his problems had totally overcome him. It was all over and there was no fixing it. He felt so drained and tired. The thought of his situation was so over whelming, he still couldn't even believe it himself. He simply slumped over and let out a few quiet sobs.

He didn't even finish the cigarette.
