There's a girl on Bridget's street that is always smiling. But she's dressed in rags, has ratty, tangled hair, and scraped up feet. People donate shoes to her every day. Why doesn't the barefoot girl ever wear them? And what's the secret to her happiness? Can Bridget learn what lasting happiness is from this mysterious girl? What will she learn about herself on the way? And will she ever be free from the one day of her past that haunts her the most?
