He was just a kid when he learned how dirty the world he's living in was.

Everyone had thoughts - cruel, cruel thoughts that they wouldn't let anyone to know. Yet, he knew their thoughts (and of all the oddities a normal person could have this would be the most peculiar of all, but that is, if you can call him a normal person) and was suddenly treated like an outcast.
