She called herself Lucy, because it sounded about right. It wasn’t a name her mother would have chosen; and her father would not have considered it at all. But it was a good name. A safe name. It’s a name that lets you hide. Except that Lucy wasn’t really hidden right now. Someone potentially dangerous had found them, and it's up to her to make sure that he doesn't figure out who and what they really are. It means putting roots down. It means staying put. It means being tempted to believe the lie. He called himself Jimmy because hey, why not? He doesn't know his real name anyway. He grew up in the system with no real parents--everyone was too unnerved by his birthmarks. He tries not to think about them. But it's hard ignoring their existence when his new charity case keeps looking at them. Among other things. It's like she knows something about him.
