Thomas "Tom" Carson is a human calculator. Mentally, he can add, subtract, multiply, and divide with top accuracy in near record timing. In short, he is great with numbers, with one exception: he cannot get the number of Tessa Benning. For months, one hundred and fifty-two days to be exact, Tom has attempted to muster up the courage to just say "hello" and has failed each time. His fear of rejection keeps him still and quiet whenever she is around practically leaving him invisible. Tessa Benning has epilepsy and recently, that seems to be the only thing people care about. After a near fatal accident, Tessa feels like she is suffocating under her family's constant hovering. Her only source of freedom is taking the commuter train to work, but she is not spared from random seizures that seemed to be becoming more frequent as of late. When another unexpected seizure catches her off guard one morning resulting in a nasty fall, Tessa discovers that she has a guardian angel. He remains at her side and takes care of her until further help arrives, but when she goes to thank him personally, Tessa is only left with a note. And it is signed... Love, Tom
