15-year-old River Krauss is the quiet girl at her school who never talks unless someone is talking directly to her. She is one of the shyest girls at school, but she has a different side for when she's alone. When her mom dies in an accident at work, she's grief-stricken. Only Christian (Chris) Crowell, her best friend, can get her to try to loosen up and let go. In her time with Chris, she finds herself again, and is completely unprepared when the next disaster hits.
